Which Kurti Suits an Apple Body Shape? Read Where the Garment Is Fitted
Apple body shape means your waist measures at or above your bust and hip. Which kurti suits it, decided from the Shape, Length, Neck and Slit on each kurta.

An apple body shape is a measurement, not a verdict: your waist measures at or above your bust and hip. The attribute that decides the outcome is where the garment is fitted. A Straight kurti is fitted nowhere but sized at your widest point, which on this profile is the waist; an A-Line kurta is fitted at the shoulder and bust and widens from below the bust to a wider hem, so the waist never picks the size; an Anarkali is fitted at a seam above the natural waist and gathered below it. Siaraa records Shape, Length, Neck and Slit on every kurta, so you can read all three before you order.
Apple body shape, stated as a measurement
Three numbers, taken with a tape held level and never pulled tight: bust at the fullest point, natural waist at the narrowest point above the navel, and hip at the widest point below it. If the waist number is the largest of the three — or within an inch or two of the largest — that is what people mean by an apple shape. That is the whole definition.
It says nothing about your size or your height, and there is nothing to do about it. It changes which of your own numbers a garment has to clear, and that is all. Most apple-shape advice online skips the measurement almost entirely and goes straight to telling you what to do about your body. Siaraa's kurta shape guide runs the other way round, and so does this: read the recorded attribute, picture the outline it produces, decide whether you want that outline.
Where a kurta is fitted decides which of your numbers picks your size
This is a sizing mechanic before it is a styling one. A kurta has to clear every measurement it passes over. If the garment is fitted somewhere, that point sets the size — so if your waist is your largest number and the kurta is fitted at the waist, the waist picks the size and the shoulders sit wider as a consequence. Choose a shape that isn't fitted at the waist and the conflict never arises.
| Recorded Shape | Where it is fitted | Which measurement picks your size | What the hem does | The honest trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A-Line | Shoulder and bust only | Bust — the widening starts below it | Widens gradually to a hem wider than the hip | Adds width at the hem, often your narrowest measurement on this profile |
| Straight | Nowhere, but one width all the way down | Whichever of bust, waist and hip is largest | Falls in one line, hem roughly hip-width | Size to the waist and the shoulder seam sits wide; size to the bust and it pulls |
| Anarkali | One seam at or above the natural waist | Bust and underbust only | Swings as a gathered skirt from that seam | The seam must land above your natural waist, which needs torso length |
The short version: A-Line and Anarkali both move the fitted point up, off the waist. Straight does not — it makes the whole column as wide as your widest number. None is better. They are three answers to the question of which measurement gets to decide.
The kurti-specific answer is not the kurta answer
If you typed "kurti" rather than "kurta", this part matters. Every kurti Siaraa stocks is recorded Straight. There is no A-Line kurti in the catalogue, so if the mechanic above points you at an A-Line you are shopping kurtas or kurta sets, not kurtis. That is a real limit, not a nudge.
A Straight kurti is still an ordinary choice — it is the everyday default — as long as you order it at your largest measurement and expect a skim rather than a flare. The Off White Sunnt Petal Cotton Kurti at ₹699 and the Women Black Warli Printed Cotton Ethnic Kurti at ₹799 are both recorded Straight with side slits, and both come in XS to XXL.
What an A-Line does, in the pieces that record it
The widening starts under the bust and runs uninterrupted to the hem, so there is no point at which the garment is pulled in.
The clearest example is the Women Rust Floral Printed A-Line Kurta with Side Slit at ₹999: its own description records a gathered empire waist, meaning the seam sits under the bust rather than at the natural waist, plus a high side slit and a calf-length hem. The Blue Aura Tribal Ikkat Kurta and Rani Pink Paisley Pintuck Kurta, both ₹899, are A-Line with round necks and side slits.
In sets, the Women Cream & Mustard Floral Print Angrakha Kurta Set at ₹1,499 is worth singling out: an angrakha ties across the front instead of pulling over the head, so the overlap point is set by you at the time of wearing rather than fixed by a side seam.
Anarkali: two products, and a torso-length condition
Siaraa stocks exactly two Anarkalis, both complete sets — the Evara Floral Anarkali Kurta Set at ₹1,999 and the Floral Anarkali Dress with Dupatta at ₹1,899. Two is the real number, not shorthand for a range.
The condition attached is torso length, not body shape. The seam is designed to sit above the natural waist; a short torso puts it closer to the waist and the garment stops doing what it was built to do, while a long torso gives it room and the gathered skirt clears everything below. The structural comparison is in A-line vs Anarkali vs straight kurta.
Length, neck and slit are the smaller levers
Length is a height decision. Almost everything Siaraa records is Calf Length; the exceptions are the Yellow Floral Embroidered Kurta at ₹899 and the Hot Pink Mirror Charm Co-Ord Set at ₹1,299, both Knee Length. Kurtis carry no recorded Length.
Neck changes the direction of the line, nothing else — V-Neck, Sweetheart and Scoop extend it downward, Boat and Square extend it sideways, and the Halter Neck on the Sky Lemon Print Halter Neck Kurta Set at ₹1,299 removes the shoulder line entirely.
Side slits change movement. A slit lets a straight hem break and part instead of swinging as one block, which gets part of the way to how an A-Line behaves at the hem without adding width through the body.

Sizes, and what this guide does not publish
Siaraa is an Indian online women's fashion brand — a trademark of Bright & Bloom Private Limited — selling its own catalogue of ethnic and everyday wear for women: cotton kurtas, kurtis, tunic tops, dresses, Anarkalis and co-ord sets. Free shipping across India, 5-day returns, prices in INR.
Kurta sets, co-ord sets and dresses are stocked S to XXL — no XS, nothing above XXL. Some kurtas, kurtis and tops also carry XS, per product rather than per category, and each page lists the sizes that piece is stocked in.
This article publishes no garment measurements in inches and does not tell you to size up. Each product page carries a Size Chart beside the size selector with that piece's own numbers, collected across the range in the size guide. Attributes narrow the catalogue to a handful worth trying; they cannot tell you how a print sits on you. Browse the women's collection and let your own eye finish.
FAQ
Which kurti suits an apple body shape?
An apple body shape means your waist measures at or above your bust and hip, so the useful filter is where the kurti is fitted. Every kurti in Siaraa's catalogue is recorded Straight, which means it is fitted nowhere but has to be ordered at your largest measurement — workable, and it will skim rather than flare. If you want width that starts below the bust instead, that is an A-Line, and it exists as a kurta or a kurta set rather than as a kurti.
How do I know if I have an apple body shape?
Measure three things with a tape held level: bust at the fullest point, natural waist at the narrowest point above the navel, and hip at the widest point below it. If the waist number is the largest of the three, or within an inch or two of the largest, that is the profile people call an apple shape. It is a set of numbers that changes which measurement a garment has to clear, nothing more.
Should I choose an A-Line or a Straight kurta if my waist is my largest measurement?
It depends which trade-off you prefer. An A-Line is fitted at the shoulder and bust and widens from below the bust down, so the waist never picks the size, but the hem ends up wider than your hip. A Straight kurta keeps one width from shoulder to hem, so it has to be ordered at your widest number and the shoulder seam sits a little wide as a result.
Is an Anarkali a good choice for an apple body shape?
The deciding factor is torso length rather than shape. An Anarkali's seam is built to sit above the natural waist, and everything below it is a gathered skirt that clears the body freely, so the waist measurement never constrains the fit. With a short torso the seam lands closer to the natural waist and the design stops working as intended. Siaraa stocks exactly two Anarkalis, both complete sets, at ₹1,899 and ₹1,999.
Does an empire waist kurta work if my waist is my widest measurement?
Mechanically, yes — an empire seam sits under the bust rather than at the natural waist, so the fitted point is above the measurement in question and the fabric falls loose from there down. Siaraa's Women Rust Floral Printed A-Line Kurta at ₹999 records a gathered empire waist along with a high side slit and a calf-length hem. Whether you like the resulting outline is a separate question from whether it fits.
Should I buy a kurta set or a single kurti?
A single kurti is bought for everyday rotation and paired with whatever you own; a kurta set arrives with its bottom and usually a dupatta, so nothing has to be matched. On fit, a set commits you to one size across two garments, while buying separately lets you size the top and the bottom independently. Siaraa's kurtis start at ₹599 and its kurta sets at ₹1,299.
